Scenario workshops evaluate possible future developments. They normally have a group size of 24 to 32 partic ipants. The participants are usually residents, entrepreneurs, planners or technical experts. On the basis of a status quo analysis, the main influencing factors and key data are collected – while changing general conditions of future developments. The scenario technique is applicable for statements of economic, technological and social developments.

Scenario workshops have frequently been used in various countries, for example, the scenario workshop on Urban Ecology (Denmark), „Gene, Geld und Gelehrte” (Germany), a citizens’ jury / scenario workshop on food and farming futures for Andgra Pradesh (India), Speaking out meetings on genetics and health (UK).
